Please note that the below information has not been updated since the project was offered to another organisation.
Avonmouth toilets have been closed to the public for a number of years now and the building has been left to decay.
As part of Avonmouth’s Community Plan one of the biggest issues in the area was a lack of public toilet. The building has been condemned so required complete refurbishment but this is something as a projects group we are currently looking into.
The first stage is coming up with a plan on how to finance refurbishment and whether it is feasible. A recent post by us on our facebook page showed us there is demand so we believe the best option is to turn the toilets into a useable commercial premises whilst still keeping one part of the building as a public toilet.
The next stage is to start a Community Asset Transfer which means that Bristol City Council would lease us the building on a long term low rent basis. We would then try to secure funding and refurbish the building. Once refurbished the toilet block will be rented out on condition that a toilet is available to the public during agreed hours.
